  • Accounts (parents)-

    • Powerschool - access student grades and sign up for periodic emails (your choice); receive report cards

    • Canvas - Academic site used to assign work and parents can have observer accounts

    • K12Payments - Used to purchase meals, school fees, activities and more.

    • Chromebook - Students are issued laptops; contact school for more information.

  • Accounts (students)- Some of the accounts the school will help student set up:

  • Athletics - Fall sports typically begin Aug 1, with Fall sport tryouts being help prior to that date. Please review Athletics page link below and contact school/coaches with any questions.

  • Attendance -

    • Early Dismissal -notes should be sent to Attendance office on the day of early dismissal, so that student can be dismissed from class. Attendance will not call into a class during instruction time for an early dismissal.

    • Absences - Notes should be sent for excused absences. Students are responsible for communicating with teachers regarding missed course work.

    • Full details available in NGHS Student Handbook and on NGHS website.

  • Bell Schedule for 2022-23 school year is here; Music is used to signify class change, instead of traditional bell tones.

  • Cell phone ; Dress code - verify with NGHS Student Handbook

  • Clubs and Organizations - List of options can be found here ; Don’t forget to check out social media. Clubs usually organize during the first few weeks of school.

  • Connect Ed - Sign up through NGHS office with phone number and email to get weekly updates on school events.

  • Courses, Requirements and Opportunities - Check out the Counseling Department for details.

    • Dual Enrollment - GCS partners with GTCC to provide additional learning options for students.

    • GAP - Guilford Apprenticeship Partners - Promising career; College Degree; Zero Debt

    • ACT/SAT - GCS offers standardized testing days each year. Dates TBD.

  • Fanwear - Purchase spirit wear to show your NGHS support - Shirts, sweatshirts, hats, accessories and more. The sale of Fanwear is the primary source of income for PTSA and helps support NGHS community programs and events.

  • Food - Breakfast and Lunch can be purchased or provided by GCS (see free lunch application); Students are required to stay on campus for lunch and no outside (restaurant food) can be brought in or delivered. There are typically 3 lunch periods.

  • Involvement - Parents are encouraged to get involved and there are a number of ways:

  • Hawk’s Nest - Homeroom type class, only attended periodically

  • Learning Hub - After school study environment offered for students.

  • Media Center - The GCS One card gains students access to the Greensboro Public Library, in addition to the onsite media center. Learn more here.

  • Traditions -

    • Spirit Week (s) - Events sponsored by Student Council

    • Football games - watch for Spirit Themes for each game ( themes can be found on Student Council Instagram)

    • Powder Puff Football Game- Junior and Senior event held in the Fall

    • Homecoming Dance - held in the Fall; location varies

    • Junior/Senior Prom - held in Spring; held off-site

    • Senior Events - hosted by PTSA throughout the year - breakfasts; picnics etc

    • Graduation - organized by GCS; held at the Greensboro Coliseum.

    • Parking Spaces - Seniors can personalize their parking spaces by painting them in August. See PTSA

    • Paint the Rock - Groups paint the rock to advertise events and programs.

  • Transportation -

    • Bus transportation is requested via GCS. Learn more here.

    • Car rider drop-off/pick up information will be shared via NGHS based on bell schedule closer to the start of school.

    • Student drivers can sign up for Driver’s Ed at 14 1/2 yrs old. (Classroom first, then behind with wheel will be coordinated based on birth date.)

    • Juniors and Seniors can purchase assigned parking spaces in student lot (Sophomores are not allowed to drive to school.) Seniors can paint their parking spaces. See Main Office for information.

    • Other parking : Visitor lot is next to tennis courts - short term parking. Staff/Faculty lot is closest to school entrance.

  • Zero Period - Typical schedule is 6 courses. Some courses are offered before First Period, so that students can take 7 courses. Course offerings are updated closer to the start of school.
